Newark, Delaware, ChristianaCare is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Neurocritical Care team. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with previous critical care experience. This position is a dedicated nights position. Our state of the art, eighteen bed Neurocritical Care Intensive Care unit and six bed stepdown unit including 2 rooms with epilepsy monitoring capability are located on our Newark campus. The ideal Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) candidate will be comfortable working independently in collaboration with the neurocritical intensivist performing direct medical management utilizing approved protocols, procedures and expert consultation for our adult neurocritical care patients. APCs on this team are involved in quality, safety and experience improvement initiatives. Neurocritical Care patients include: Acute ischemic stroke (s/p TPA, mechanical thrombectomy, malignant stroke) Non-traumatic intracerebral hemorrhage Non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage Status epilepticus Meningitis / encephalitis Post-surgical management of patients with CNS tumors and cerebrovascular interventions Duties and Responsibilities include : Assess health status of the neurocritical care patient through complete physical examination and medical history Design individualized management plans in collaboration with physicians, staff nurses, and other health care Manage care of the critically ill patient collaboratively with other caregivers within established protocols, guidelines, and scope of practice Utilizes teaching/learning principles coupled with an expert clinical knowledge to promote and provide education to patients and their families Act as liaison for patients, families, and health professionals Perform procedures including lumbar puncture, arterial catheterization and central venous catheterization Education and Experience requirements: – Advance Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner with certification in Acute Care required – Physician Assistant must be a graduate of ARC-PA accredited program and be certified or eligible for certification by the NCCPA – Licensed or license eligible for the state of DE – Must have or be eligible to obtain prescriptive authority – Previous critical care experience preferred – BLS and ACLS certifications required
