Job Description: Tokyo Disney Resort Operations Manager
Division: Operations, Walt Disney Attractions Japan
Reports to: Director, Operations, WDAJ
Job Overview
The Operations Manager is responsible for providing leadership, guidance and support while will identifying methods, processes, and procedures to manage and protect the Disney brand at Tokyo Disney Resort (TDR), one of the most popular theme park destinations in the world operating under the largest Disney license agreement worldwide with Oriental Land Company (OLC).
This role will work with all Walt Disney Attractions Japan (WDAJ) lines of business (e.g., Merchandise, Food & Beverage, Entertainment, Hotels, Digital Business, Commercial Strategy, Brand Integration and Marketing Communication, etc.) , Walt Disney Imagineering Japan and Disney Parks, Experiences, & Products (DPEP) business leaders (e.g. Worldwide Safety Agency) to assess current agreements and operating procedures, identify ways to support the priorities of both Disney and OLC, and provide more decision-making power to employees of OLC in their daily work all while maximizing long-term value for Disney.
The position is a locally hired position and is not eligible for expat benefits.
Responsibilities
Key duties and responsibilities of the role will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Build strong relationships throughout the Disney company and OLC
- Have an understanding and demonstrated application of Disney and Industry Standards and knowledge of when they are applicable within Tokyo Disney Resort
- Lead and manage the WDAJ 1 program (point of contact with Oriental Land Company Operations representative for the day) to enhance the relationship with and influence OLC Operating Teams through role modeling and sharing of Disney Heritage and philosophy
- Manage the inter-departmental elements within the Operations Division, including the Disney Review Request process
- Act as a primary interface between segment and OLC partners in key areas of operation
- Gain a strong understanding of all the various business areas at TDR and opportunities for Disney brand consistency through conversations, observations, and connectivity between different lines of business
- Facilitate regular meetings with the Operating areas of Oriental Land Company reviewing current performance, while ensuring operational efficiency and quality integration
- Develop and lead the WDAJ Operations Team of Specialist through skill assessment and ongoing training
- Facilitate an inclusive culture that fosters diversity, integrity, collaboration, empowerment, and trust
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in an operational role
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Excellence in managing relationships with external partners, collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Strong sense of ownership, flexibility and integrity
- High level of motivation, strong self-starter and strong problem-solving ability in a fast-paced environment
- Organized, thorough and detail oriented; ability to prioritize
- Ability to negotiate and coordinate through conflict and problem-solve issues to resolution
- Ability to coordinate multiple disciplines and understand how they interrelate
- Ability to take direction, adapt to change, establish relationships, and work in a team environment
- Ability to review operations and suggest operational improvements utilizing critical thinking and strategic decision making skills
- Willing to work irregular shifts including weekends, holidays, early mornings and late nights
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Theme Park industry
- Previous experience working for or with The Walt Disney Company
- Strong familiarity with the Disney brand including quality and safety standards
- Experience working for or with a major brand (Japanese companies and multi-national companies preferred)
- Experience in the travel and leisure industry
- Excellent Bi-lingual (Japanese/English) written and verbal communication skills to inspire and influence partners within WDAJ and OLC is preferred, however, native English ability, or native Japanese with English communication skill will also be considered
