Position Summary
The Department of Theatre and Dance within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo, is seeking a full
time Instructional Support Technician to serve as the Assistant Production Manger.
The Assistant Production Manager
contributes to the entire production season, including season planning, obtaining production rights, hosting auditions, providing support
for guest artists, and production supervision. They coordinate with the Producing Director, Artistic Director, and Production Manager to
develop and manage the yearly production budget. They work closely with students, faculty, and staff across all areas of the department to
manage public performances and productions. They enforce health and safety guidelines in accordance with industry standards. They
collaborate with the production stage managers, directors and choreographers, on day-to-day scheduling. The duties will include but not
limited to:
Financial Management
- Estimate and prepare production budget for Department Season in
coordination with the Production Manager. - Purchase, arrange, and reconcile various production needs such as such as rights,
scripts, playbills, KCACTF and ACDA registrations, and for Student Directed Series and maintain inventory.
Production
Management
- Provide show-day production oversight as assigned and anticipate and troubleshoot potential issues for all events;
Provide support to guest artists. - Assist Production Manager in scheduling performances and rehearsals for departmental productions,
and manage additional space requests from faculty, staff, students, outside users using EMS.
Production
Communications
- Review press releases, marketing materials, and produce playbills; participate in the creation and
implementation of audience generation strategies.
Stage Management
- Function as a stage manager or mentor for
student stage managers as needed, specifically in dance. Serve as a mentor for class TH 349 and contribute guest lectures in area of
expertise. - Streamline departmental production audition process and promote inclusive casting.
The Department of
Theatre and Dance offers BA and BFA degrees in Dance, Theatre Performance, Theatre Studies, Music Theatre, and Design Technology, as well
as a MA and PhD in Theatre Performance and an MFA in Dance. We produce a full season of dance concerts, music theatre productions, and
dramatic works with UB’s Center for the Arts and Katharine Cornell Theatre and host numerous guest artists, guest directors, and
scholars.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in theatre or the arts, or related degree and
two years of experience in theatrical production management or related work; an equivalent combination of education and/or experience will
be considered. - Knowledge of best practices and safe working procedures in all areas of technical theatre and able to promote and
cultivate a safe and organized work environment. - Common computer skills required for work are: database management, data analytics,
cloud collaboration, maintaining email communication and Microsoft Office Suite including word processing, creating budgets and
spreadsheets, presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong communication and leadership skills. Ability
to plan and problem solve. Able to show initiative and work efficiently in stressful situations. Strong organizational skills and work
habits. - Experience in arts management, audience generation, stage management, calling shows, and theatre
technology. - Demonstrated educational expertise, working with diverse populations and pedagogical approaches.
- Commitment to
furthering community engagement initiatives and experience and interest in collaborating on multi-disciplinary
projects.
Physical Demands
- Hours routinely include days, nights, weekends and long production
shifts.
Salary Range
$50,148 – $53,000
