About the Role: Job Summary While under the supervision of a Field Services Manager, the Dispatcher primarily works independently to process the treatment and quick admission of emergency medical patients. Dispatchers should possess exceptional knowledge of medical terminology, pre-hospital pharmacology, and field treatment guidelines for various emergency conditions, treatment and stabilization of all patients and the standard of care for pre-hospital emergencies. Should have excellent communications skills and possess the ability to manage multiple communications related tasks at one time. Minimum Job Qualifications Licensure or other certifications: State Certification as EMT. Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED. Minimum Experience: Level 1 – EMT with field experience but no dispatch experience, Level 2 – EMT with two (2) years of dispatch experience or paramedic with no dispatch experience, Level 3 – Paramedic with two (2) years of dispatch experience Other: Preferred Job Qualifications Preferred Licensure or other certifications: Paramedic License. Preferred Educational Requirements: Preferred Experience: Other: Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Communication skills various mediums-Radio, Telephone, Face-to-Face Understanding of medical terminology Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access Knowledge of indications, dosages, and contraindications of common pre-hospital pharmaceuticals Knowledge of pre-hospital emergency treatment protocols (specifically – Stroke, STEMI, and Trauma management) Essential Tasks and Responsibilities Manages the patient transportation needs of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Hospice, and Laurelwood. Serves as communication point of contact for all incoming air and ground ambulances. Communicates and documents all potential in-bound Stroke Alerts.
Communicates and documents all potential in-bound Trauma Alerts. Communicates and documents all potential in-bound STEMI Alerts. Ensures that all communication equipment is operational 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Troubleshoots problems with EKG transmission from the field. Accurately databases information from incoming ambulances. Expeditiously responds back to the field ambulances that are requesting medical treatment orders from a physician. Identifies and alerts the appropriate personnel to possible radio equipment problems with the field ambulances. Manages the appropriate software programs for patient transportation and admission to the hospital. Is able to take reservations and dispatch NGHS ambulances from the department’s dispatch software program. Accurately enters ambulance information from non-NGHS field ambulances in the dispatch program.
Makes bed assignments in the ER’s bed tracking software system for incoming ambulances before their arrival Ensures that Registration staff is aware of in-bound patients and their estimated time of arrival. Properly uses the radio console and troubleshoots problems. Promptly answers the telephone and appropriately uses its functions in order to enhance communication links. Maintains and operates the Medical transport dispatch radios Performs daily check of all communications related equipment in the Dispatch Center including computers, radios, telephones, printers, fax machines, and 12-lead EKG receiving stations. Minimizes the amount of time an ambulance crew has to wait for a bed assignment. Notifies the appropriate staff of the ETA of the ambulance and the condition of the patient. Helps the medics physically locate the appropriate bed if needed Receives and documents concerns that affect NGHS from the ambulance crews and notifies the appropriate staff Submits Plant Operations work orders for repairs needed in the Dispatch Center and EMS room. All verbal communication is performed according to Medical Transport policies and the laws of the State of Georgia.
