About This Position ChristianaCare is looking for a Peer Outreach Advocate who will be embedded within the New Castle County Division of Police Behavioral Health Unit; Hero Help Addiction (HHA), which is a liaison among providers, hospitals, peer counselors, and people seeking treatment for substance use disorder (SUD). The Peer Outreach Advocate will deliver outreach and peer recovery support services to adults with substance use disorder to ensure that they receive appropriate and immediate access to substance use disorder treatment by connecting them to a treatment provider and addressing any barriers they may have to pursuing treatment. Some responsibilities include: Conduct outreach both in homes and in the community with an Officer and another member of Hero Help Addiction Unit for individuals who were referred or suffered from a non-fatal overdose. Provide relatable experience through motivational interviewing techniques for those dealing with substance use disorder (SUD). Facilitating immediate assistance to individuals who are engaged through non-fatal overdose outreach and explain the recovery process to individuals and their families who are suffering from SUD. Assist in training for NCCPD officers regarding available referral mechanisms and developing strategic partnerships to increase program efficacy. Coordinate case management support with HERO HELP Coordinator, Registered Nurse, Peer Case Manager and appropriate NCCPD officer, as needed. This could include re-engagement of past participants, accompanying participants to Court or coordinating one-on-one meetings as needed.

Coordinate and conduct community education and awareness training through the Heroin Alert Program. Flexibility to work a rotating shift to include evenings and weekends and assist with covering on-call responsibilities to ensure 24/7 coverage. Desired candidates possess a high school diploma or equivalent and five years of experience working in the field of substance use disorder treatment required. CADC/CAADC is preferred, but not required.
