Position Title: Performing Arts: Technical Director/Facilities Manager

Responsibilities:

The School of Music and Performing Arts at the University of Louisiana
at Lafayette invites applications for a Technical Director/Facilities Manager beginning in Fall 2023. 

This is a year-round (12
month) staff position, with some teaching duties.  The program offers a BFA in Performing Arts with concentrations in Dance, Acting,
Design/Technology, Directing, and Theatre.  The Performing Arts Program produces, on average, two to three mainstage Theatre productions,
two Dance shows, and provides support for the UL Opera company’s two productions, each year. 

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the construction and installation of scenery, and execution of scenic, lighting, sound, and properties design for
    departmental productions.
  •  Upkeep of production spaces, tools, and materials.
  • Supervising student-workers and
    technical theatre students.
  • Maintaining the scene shop tools, equipment, and facilities at the Burke Theater and tracking
    inventory.
  • Serving as Safety Coordinator for the Performing Arts area.
  • Teaching Stagecraft and Theatre Workshop (practicum)
    in Fall and Spring semesters, with a possibility of other classes as needed in the area of technical theatre, or the candidate’s area of
    specialty.
  • Serving as the Facilities Manager for Burke Theater throughout the Summer.
  • Some night and weekend hours may be
    required.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in
    Theatre.
  • Minimum two years experience in one or more of the following areas: technical direction, scenic carpentry, electrics,
    rigging, or sound engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MFA in Design/Technical
    Direction.
  • Knowledge of CAD and a range of other design programs.
  • Experience and demonstrated expertise in technical
    direction, scenic carpentry, electrics, rigging, and sound engineering
  • Professionalism, collegiality, and excellent organizational
    and communication skills.
  • Theatre teaching experience at the college level.
