Johnson City, Tennessee, Tennessee, The Mountain Home VA Healthcare System in Johnson City, Tennessee is recruiting for an PACT-ACT Physician to serve as a full-time medical service physician. This position is accountable to the Chief of Medicine for assuring the most effective delivery of state-of-the-art care by meeting or exceeding compliance standards. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
(NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. ) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i. e. , not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a “scope of practice” that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical Requirements: To perform in a fully successful manner, the individual must have the physical ability to perform job-related duties which require lifting, standing, bending, transferring, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing, or pulling without assistance from another patient care provider or significant other for extended periods of time. A health examination must be successfully complete prior to this assignment and periodically thereafter as required by the Employee Health Clinic policy. There will be intermittent exposure to blood and body fluids. Performing screenings and medical evaluations of unattached Veterans, toxic exposure screening of walk-ins, call-ins, and supervision of the other members of the environmental care team and the employee occupational health team. The position will be expected to become an expert in WRIISC modules. The position is expected to track and address unresolved exposure screenings. Completes performance appraisals on support staff working in the clinic to include Occupational Health staff. Completes evaluations on supervised medical students, if applicable. Actively participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings. Complies with all Coding and Encounter regulations in a timely manner. Completes performance appraisals of employee occupational health staff. Functions as the medical center MRO. Other duties as assigned related to environmental medicine/TES.
Responsible for performing toxic exposure screening for unattached Veterans, unplanned call-ins, and unplanned walk-ins. Interfaces with other medical staff and health care professionals in the medical center regarding toxic exposure screening and exposure related medical work ups. Achieves Performance measure goals and participate in performance improvement Initiatives such as peer review, SAIL improvement initiatives, service level care reviews, and OPPE/FPPE reviews. Ensures patients are vested as required. Serves as Collaborating Physician for Mid-level practitioners and participates in peer review and performance appraisal. Serves as performance appraisal rater for all other employees of the section. Assists Occupational Health in clinical duties such as physical examinations and consultation for lab results. Assists Environmental Clinic with Veteran Registry Health examinations as required by PACT ACT. Serves as the medical center MRO. This position will supervise the other employees in the section to include Occupational Health.
