Full Time, Variable Shifts Summary: Patrols assigned areas of Hospital campus in order to maintain an orderly and safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Enforces Hospital policies and procedures, and applicable local and state laws. Upholds the mission, vision, values and customer service standards of Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron (CHMCA). Responsibilities: 1. Patrol the campus and the surrounding areas being highly visible and alert for safety and security hazards and suspicious activities, working independently with minimal to no supervision.

Secures buildings, offices, classrooms and other areas. 2. Respond to alarms and all calls requesting Department of Public Safety services. 3. Knowledge of Department Policies and Procedures with flexibility to modify under certain circumstances for optimal results. 4. Enforce all parking rules and regulations, assist motorists with vehicle problems, and provide escorts to patients, visitors, and staff. 5. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and effectively via two way radio, computer, email, telephone, and verbal communications. 6.

Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity utilizing de-escalation and other communication techniques. 7. Complete and successfully pass Field Training with a Field Training Officer (FTO). 8. Responds to critical incidents. 9. Appear in court to present evidence and/or testify as required. 10. Must have the ability to perform the functions of a law enforcement officer which would include being able to effect the physical arrest of a suspect. 11.

Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by Supervision or Command Staff. Other information: Technical Expertise 1. Experience containing and control crowds in order to preserve peace, providing a safe environment during large events. 2. Experience with record management systems to document incident reports in a complete, concise, and proper manner. 3. Experience making arrests and/or transport arrestees when appropriate. 4. Experience providing appropriate medical assistance to the sick and injured by providing first aid and/or alerting medical staff. Education and Experience 1.

Must be 21 years of age or older at time of hire. 2. High School Diploma or equivalent. 3. Associate’s Degree in a related field. In lieu of an Associate’s degree, possess a minimum of three years of job related experience in law enforcement/hospital private security setting, or combination of Secondary education and job related experience. 4. Possesses a valid Ohio driver’s license (and ability to obtain and maintain eligibility of insurability as determined by the CHMCA insurance carrier’s requirements to operate CHMCA vehicles) and reliable transportation to report to alternate sites. 5. Possess a current OPOTA Basic Police Academy certification.

6. Required to achieve and maintain department’s qualifying firearms standards for duration of employment. 7. Successfully complete a thorough background investigation. 8. Demonstrate psychological fitness commensurate with the role of an armed officer, evaluated by a Psychologist designated by the Department of Public Safety Director and Chief.
