Description Postdoctoral positions are available Dr. Candace Floyd’s Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Research Laboratory in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the affiliated E mory N eurotrauma T ranslat i onal R esearch cent e r at Grady (ENTiRe at Grady). We seek to recruit and train highly qualified and motivated postdoctoral fellows in neurotrauma research and/or neuropathic pain research. The training program will emphasize the use of translational porcine preclinical research models of traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and neuropathic pain to fill important gaps in knowledge and accelerate advancement of therapeutics. Clinical-relevance to all research is emphasized by regular interactions with neurotrauma and neuropathic pain clinical practitioners as well as lived-experience consultants. Trainees will learn using a multidisciplinary approach in a mentor-based model. The training program is designed to prepare outstanding trainees for a successful research career that will ultimately lead to innovative research in neurotrauma and neuropathic pain. Participation in the Certificate Program in Translational Science in the Emory Laney Graduate School can be accommodated.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph. D. , M. D. , ScD. , D. V. M. , DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.

The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Previous research in preclinical models of neurotrauma or neuropathic pain preferred.
