Nashville, Tennessee, Organization: VICTR Job Summary: External Ad Title: Principal Application Developer Location: 2525 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203 Vanderbilt University Medical Center is looking for a Principal Application Developer to work in the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR) department with development, maintenance, dissemination, and support of the data management system, REDCap software application, utilized by clinical, research, and operational services at VUMC. Utilize Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) and JavaScript software development languages to create REDCap application; assess any bug reports and address the fixes in the software; work in Agile to develop REDCap strategy and release cycles; gather requirements from users and stakeholders for developing new software features and prioritizing their development and release schedule; lead conference calls to assist users and administrators utilizing the REDCap product, specially the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR) services used by Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems; create, consume, and transform data in FHIR format; guide and mentor junior developers on the team; perform code reviews for junior developers to approve their code prior to inclusion and merging into the main codebase. . Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Development or closely related field and five (5) years of experience in each of the following:
* Creating, consuming, and transforming data using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs);
* Using PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) and JavaScript software development languages;
* Developing relational database strategies and release cycles in an Agile environment;
* Mentoring junior developers;
* Independently conducting application development and implementing the system;
* Using advanced application development standards and procedures in practical applications and recommending improvements to the process;
* Performing systems analysis tasks such as collection of documents, user interviews, file analysis, process flow charting, functional process modeling, data modeling, feasibility, prototyping, and evaluating existing systems;
* Performing structured functional specifications, modularity and partitioning;
* Conducting systems design tasks in a team environment;
* Building and enhancing complex systems, including preparing design and file specifications, preparing testing, conversion, and implementation plans, designing system architecture and process flows, and preparing program requirements and specifications;
* Performing structured design of at least one complex data processing systems as a member of a project team; and
* Using functional decomposition and structured design walk-throughs.
