Chapman University is required to provide a
reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in
making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other
business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as
internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Job Description
Summary
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Compliance Safety Supervisor’s primary responsibilities include
the development, implementation, oversight and supervision of Dodge College’s filming protocols, practices and procedures. The Production
Compliance Safety Supervisor oversees student productions and all related motion picture recordings and student production programs
necessary to ensure a healthy, safe and environmentally sound work place, as well as assisting productions in compliance with all applicable
governmental health & safety and environmental regulations.
The Production Compliance Safety Supervisor works directly with the
Production Management Team, Production Support, students, and internal and external stakeholders in the supervision of production safety
programs, implementation, management, guidance, consultation and oversight on issues related to occupational safety and health in the
production environment. This position will assess, review, and consult on physical security matters and security best practices as it
relates to production standards. The Production Compliance and Safety Supervisor supports sustainability programs, green initiatives, and
objectives and provides direct guidance to students and other production partners on sustainability
initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Provides health & safety guidance to Dodge College of Film and Media Arts
student productions - Evaluates production/post concepts, scripts, production facilities and workflows for safety and environmental
concerns and risks - Mitigates safety concerns by working directly with the rest of the Production Management Team, students, faculty,
senior administration and other Dodge College staff and Chapman personnel - Works directly with Production Management and Production
Support in the planning and execution phase of all filming services: assessing safety needs, securing appropriate vendors, and traveling to
remote locations and/or facilities as required - Attends Dodge College production and safety meetings, team meetings, student green
light meetings, faculty meetings, committee meetings and tasks forces as applicable - Develops and distributes the production safety
guidelines, develops injury and Illness prevention programs, and other production safety guidelines and departmental
procedures - Evaluates and helps in COVID-19 safety planning as pertains to production teams
- Review Risk Assessments and
recommend corrective actions and assist productions in implementation - Responds to, and investigates production emergencies,
incidents and accidents - Coordinates production employee health & safety training
- Works independently without direct
management supervision - Develops and maintains effective working relationships with industry safety organizations, representatives,
consultants and governmental regulatory agencies as appropriate - Develops, implements and audits production safety and environmental
standards, policies and procedures for Dodge College of Film and Media Arts productions - Quickly recognizes and resolves various
production safety issues that arise during the course of normal production activities - Determines the applicable regulations in state
and local municipalities where a particular production may be shooting - Stays abreast of related industry best practices, training,
certifications, and competencies - Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 3-5
years of safety experience - Thorough understanding of motion picture and television production process including organizational
structure, terminology, equipment, construction methods, stunt and special effects techniques, etc. preferred - Bachelor’s Degree in
Health & Safety, Environmental Studies, Physical Sciences or related major a plus - Knowledge of Federal, state and local health &
safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, etc.) - Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial
Hygienist (CIH) certification a plus - Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Computer and software
skills - Project management
- Ability to respond to production needs/emergencies at all hours of the day
- Ability to work
independently without immediate management supervision
Desired Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in
the field of production safety or occupational safety - 1-3 years of experience in the field level production safety experience on
both motion pictures and television productions - Extensive knowledge of federal and State of California Occupational Health and
Safety regulations, as well as local and civic municipalities regulations
