Job Description:

The Immaculata University Writing Center invites qualified candidates to apply for the position
of Professional Writing Assistant. The Writing Center is founded on the belief that all writers can benefit from talking about their
writing. The Center’s trained staff act as thoughtful, critical readers who engage in collaborative dialogue with writers from across the
disciplines and at any stage of the writing process. At the heart of its mission is a commitment to helping students develop the skills to
be strong, confident writers through individualized, one-to-one writing support in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Reporting
to the Director of the Writing Center, the successful candidate’s primary responsibility will be tutoring undergraduate and graduate writers
of the Immaculata community. This position is part-time, 20 hours per week, 12 months per year.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide one-to-one writing tutoring to undergraduate and graduate student writers in various modes, including in-person and
    online
  • Mentor and contribute to the supervision of undergraduate staff
  • Support the daily operations of the Writing
    Center
  • Partake in staff-wide professional development
  • Participate in Writing Center programming, such as writing
    partnerships, workshops, and outreach presentations
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director

Requirements:

Minimum
Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
    and the ability to foster cooperative relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to work
    independently
  • Computer and technical literacy, with a good command of Microsoft Word and familiarity with various virtual meeting
    platforms
  • Evening and weekend availability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior writing center tutoring
    experience, either at the undergraduate or professional level
  • Knowledge of academic writing conventions across myriad genres and
    disciplines, including a strong familiarity with APA style and MLA style
  • Experience using WCOnline

Experience working
with diverse populations, including traditionally underserved students (such as adult/non-traditional students, multilingual writers, and
students with disabilities)
