About the Role: Job Summary Responsible for the systematic review of patient throughput including evaluating and implementing strategies and operational improvements to reduce patient placement delays, meet established metrics, improve handoffs, reduce daily crisis regarding bed management, improve overall flow and drive the throughput policies and procedures. Accountable for the overall supervision of the Nursing Division on a designated shift during non-business hours. Serves as a resource to staff and makes general hospital administrative decisions within the framework of established policies and procedures. Consistently oversees the staffing plan and documents changes in staffing, placement of resource pool staff, and/or Agency staff. Assists in the advancement of the professional practice environment by communicating the NGHS nursing strategic direction and focusing on activities that support the nursing strategic direction. Provides nursing involvement support for VOICE and the NDNQI quality teams including providing team members for professional participation. Assists with overall clinical governance and other projects as assigned. Minimum Job Qualifications Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia. National Certification in either a clinical or leadership specialty within two years of hire.

Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree in Nursing Minimum Experience: Five (5) years of experience in the practice of professional nursing in an acute care setting; Charge RN experience. Other: Professional organization membership within three (3) months of hire into role. Preferred Job Qualifications Preferred Licensure or other certifications: Preferred Educational Requirements: Preferred Experience: Two (2) plus years in a supervisory or leadership role. Other: Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate activities related to patient care and personnel functions Utilizes the patient classification data, unit core staffing, and current status of each area to allocate safe and cost-effective staffing for the oncoming shift across the system Demonstrates appropriate clinical and technical skills to facilitate flow of patient throughout the organization minimizing delays in transition of care Demonstrates consistent ability to utilize appropriate critical thinking skills in assessments and interventions as evidenced by verbal or written reports to nursing administration Essential Tasks and Responsibilities Maintains an active role in assuring patient satisfaction relative to delays and placement issues are minimized as much as possible. Maintains prompt, ongoing and effective communication with administration, charge nurses, and staff regarding admissions, discharges and transfers. Assists access center with prioritization of patient placement. Serves as a liaison to ancillary departments to promote timely patient diagnostic turnaround. Adjusts staffing schedule on an ongoing basis to reflect necessary changes due to unscheduled absences. Responsible for overall movement of patients in a safe, efficient manner and ensuring optimal utilization of resources, including, but not limited to; staff equipment and supplies, to meet patient care needs. Functions as a single point of contact for staff, physicians and others for centralized patient placement and promotes patient satisfaction as a leader by demonstration of extraordinary service.

Collaborates with Critical Response RN to facilitate movement of patient to higher level of care. Consistently communicates with Charge Nurses to facilitate patient transfer and discharge. Implements diversion avoidance and capacity alert plans, as indicated per facility protocol, and maintains documentation of each episode. Serves as Incident Commander during disasters as needed. Maintains effective working relationships and takes appropriate action when necessary to resolve problems between nursing staff, medical staff, and/or other hospital departments. Serves as resource/liaison for patient, families, and visitors complaints and concerns. Functions as a designated reader for tuberculin skin tests for NGMC employees Performs evaluations on nurse sensitive indicators. Facilitates stroke alerts, coordinating CT scan, administration of thrombolytics as needed and collaborating with neurology, admitting physician, critical care and coordinating transfer to interventional facility if necessary. Assists as a resource for conscious sedation and coordinates appropriate resources to assure safe environment for the patient. Collaborates with NGMC Medical Transport to assure appropriate allocation of resources to assure safe transport.

Functions as a resources for clinical policies and procedures. Collaborates with critical care and respiratory staff to assure safe transport of patients on campus. Performs other duties as assigned.
