Grand Junction, Colorado, Colorado, This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 29, 2023, or until vacancy is filled. The first group of eligible applicants will be reviewed May 31, 2023. Subsequent reviews will be conducted as needed until position is filled. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U. S. C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i. e. , Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: 1. Ability to coordinate and manage the PMDB program to ensure the facility is compliant with local and national policies pertaining to the prevention and management of disruptive behavior. 2.
Ability to plan, develop, implement, direct and coordinate PMDB training at the facility level with fidelity to the national model. 3. Obtain and maintain PMDB Facility Trainer status. Applicants with this certification, are preferred. 4. Work in conjunction with the Disruptive Behavior Committee (DBC) to improve the prevention and management of disruptive behavior throughout the facility and on an ongoing basis. 5. Prepare and completed the PMDB Annual Training Plan, and assist with the development and implementation of the annual Workplace Behavioral Risk Assessment (WBRA). Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I – An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II – An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor’s degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse I Level III – An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II – A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master’s degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III – Master’s degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Mechanical inpatient lifts are provided.
The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. The incumbent who provides care in home settings or other off-site locations may be required to drive and/or ride in GSA-vehicles. [“VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Major Duties include, but are not limited to: The Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior Program (PMDB) program Ensure compliance with local and national policies pertaining to the prevention and management of disruptive behavior Plan, develop, implement, direct and coordinate PMDB training at the facility level with fidelity to the national model Ensure employees have sufficient methods, times and opportunities to complete initial training, reassessment, and retraining Assign, track and report PMDB training consistent with facility and national policies Obtain and maintain PMDB Facility Trainer status Ensure staff who serve as PMDB Master Trainers teach the minimum number of required facility PMDB classes, PMDB Train the Trainer courses and attend the PMDB Recalibration conference Obtain necessary travel and funding approvals for PMDB Master Trainer activities Obtain and maintain record of locally and nationally required documentation for all facility PMDB trainers who are Master Trainers Recruit, train and schedule PMDB Facility Trainers Ensure PMDB Facility trainers obtain and maintain certification Document and track levels each PMDB trainer is certified to teach Obtain and maintain record of locally and nationally required documentation for all PMDB Facility Trainers Maintain an adequate number of PMDB trainers to meet training needs Coordinate assignment of PMDB trainers to teach required PMDB classes Communicate with PMDB trainers to provide updated information and address concerns Train teams of clinical staff who respond to disruptive behavior for each unit identified by the facility as at high risk of disruptive or violent incidents (“high risk units”) PMDB training for clinical staff responding to disruptive behavior in high-risk units includes certification in use of PMDB therapeutic containment Ensure clinical staff who respond to disruptive behavior in high-risk units remain in compliance with policy and trainings Conduct evaluation of clinical staff who respond to disruptive behavior in high-risk units, including feedback and recommendations to staff and management teams Collaborate with Education Service, coordinate and perform tasks related to administration of PMDB courses, including: assign appropriate elements of PMDB training, enter scheduled courses, course rosters, and course credit into the Talent Management System (TMS); maintain employee, student, and volunteer rosters databases; develop training requirement and compliance databases Prepare the annual PMDB Training Plan and participate in the preparation of the facility’s annual Workplace Behavioral Risk Assessment Respond to all VISN, Central Office and facility requests for information about PMDB training or data about disruptive behavior incidents Adhere to guidelines established by the national PMDB Program Office Attend and participate in PMDB conferences and conference calls Serve as liaison between the facility employee education program, Employee Education system, TMS administrators, and national PMDB office, ensure the facility information and practices meet current expectations and provide information on new PMDB developments and future directives Work with the Workplace Violence Prevention Program Coordinator and Chief of Staff, is responsible for the implementation, education, training and updates for local PMDB policies and procedures Work with the Workplace Violence Prevention Program Coordinator and Chief of Staff, is responsible for prevention and management of disruptive behavior policies and procedures related to Joint Commission and CARF accreditation Coordinate and collaborate with legal representatives, U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of the Inspector General, court officials including the Assistant U. S.
