The Ring Lab of Synthetic and Systems Immunopharmacology is located within the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division and is a member of the Immunotherapy Integrated Research Center (IIRC). Their primary focus is on developing unique and first-in-class therapeutic drugs for cancer immunotherapy using cutting-edge protein engineering with directed evolution. The lab has developed therapeutics that are currently in clinical trials, such as ST-067 (a “decoy-resistant” IL-18), MDNA-11 (CD122-biased IL-2), and ALX-148/evorpacept (an ultra-high affinity SIRPa decoy). Moreover, the Ring Lab is actively working on developing platforms for discovering new targets in cancer immunotherapy, such as the REAP platform for discovering autoantibodies in patient samples, and high-throughput approaches in synthetic antibody discovery and characterization to identify new tumor antigens. The Ring Lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to support their preclinical and translational research. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge techniques to study immune responses in preclinical models and human cancer patients and to develop new therapeutic agents to advance into clinical trials. Responsibilities This is a long-term position that requires overseeing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory in conjunction with senior laboratory members. The Research Lab Manager provides leadership to an entire laboratory or program and collaborates with Principal Investigator(s) (PI) to develop goals and objectives that align with overall organizational strategy.
Responsibilities also include development of policies, procedures and methods; oversight of laboratory staff; management of projects and resources; and act as liaison and point of contact for laboratory. The successful applicant will also be responsible for contributing to various drug discovery and target identification projects. In addition to the above duties, the successful applicant will work with the PI and laboratory members to: Manage the laboratory, including procurement of supplies, oversight of laboratory equipment, and regulatory compliance for EHS, Human Subjects, and IACUC protocols. Oversee laboratory operations, providing leadership and guidance, support collaboration, facilitate projects, and identify infrastructure and technological needs. Provide technical assistance for ongoing studies, including protein engineering/synthetic antibody discovery, autoantibody screening of patient samples, and preclinical tumor modeling. Design and perform complex lab experiments and manage laboratory/program projects and resources; work with internal and external partners to define project goals, resources, priorities; allocate and monitor effort and progress, redistribute or negotiate addition of resources as required; and ensure deliverables are completed within projected timelines. Train and supervise junior laboratory members on various techniques and procedures. Develop and implement laboratory/program policies, procedures, systems, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and study specific protocols within broader framework of program/division. Participate in preparation of grant applications, manuscripts, and scientific presentations. Oversees special projects and new initiatives of the PI as requested.
Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in related field, graduate degree preferred Three to five years’ progressive experience in a research laboratory setting or related Two to three years of laboratory management experience Experience in immunology, protein engineering, and/or advanced molecular biology Preferred Experience with yeast/phage display, next-generation sequencing, preclinical mouse tumor models, and flow cytometry Willingness and ability to develop expertise in new research areas Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine requirement, with exceptions only for approved medical or religious accommodations. The annual base salary range for this position is from $86,078 to $129,118 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
