Departmental Overview

The office of Student Affairs People and Administrative Services provides strategic, leadership, and administrative support to the Division of Student Affairs which is made up of over 40 departments with over 1,500 career positions, and an additional 4,000 student and over 250 limited staff. This department handles all divisional diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts, strategic human resources, learning and organizational development, data analytics, quality assurance and internal controls, project and portfolio management and oversees the Business Operations department.

This position exists to support the entirety of the division on high level and complex organizational development projects, equity and inclusion efforts, and strategic initiatives, which encompass multiple disciplines. This position has a dual reporting line: directly reporting to the Executive Director of Student Affairs People and Administrative Services and a dotted reporting line to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. The incumbent serves as the division’s organizational consultant and equity and inclusion advisor with broad impact on the division and occasionally the campus.

Responsibilities

Organizational Consultant & Equity and Inclusion Advisor assesses complex situations, identifies desired improvements, works with clients to address issues, and implements solutions in alignment with strategic goals and utilizing an equity and anti-racism lens. Exercises wide judgment in selecting and developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining appropriate results and resolution of organizational effectiveness issues. Provides collaborative leadership and consultation, strategic planning, design, and facilitation on complex problems to achieve strategically aligned solutions.

Serve as the divisional organizational consultant and partner with divisional/departmental leadership on:

  • Policy, process, and practice development and implementation;
  • Organizational effectiveness;
  • Strategic planning/priority setting;
  • Mission, vision, values;
  • Workplace culture, staff engagement and morale, and appreciation;
  • Assessment and surveys;
  • Performance development coaching and consulting.
  • Identify training needs and partner with those best suited to deliver content
  • Transition and change management.
  • Serve as advisor to divisional and departmental leadership to advance.
  • DEIB within departments.
  • Identify and advise on emerging DEIB needs.
  • Advise the leadership team on the alignment of DEIB priorities at the divisional and campus levels.

Division-wide Strategic Projects and Initiatives

  • Serve on Compensation Equity Review Committee.
  • Serve on Resource Needs Intake process.
  • Co-lead of Student Affairs strategic plan priority area.
  • Provide feedback and guidance on communications to and from the division (students, staff).
  • Coordinate DEIBJ efforts across the division to share best practices and resources.
  • Use both qualitative and quantitative data to support and drive the development of initiatives that improve the experiences and access to resources, career opportunities and mobility, and information for staff within the division.
  • Lead Student Affairs DEIBJ Staff Advisory Committee.
  • Work closely with divisional assessment and data analytics managers to assess program effectiveness, organizational analysis, and recommendations to senior leaders (i.e. staff experience, compensation).

Campus Partnership

  • Partner with divisional and campus stakeholders, including Division of Equity and Inclusion leadership and People and Organizational Culture’s Director of DEIB.
  • Serve on campus committees, task forces, and working groups on behalf of the division.
  • Provide feedback on campus messages (i.e. heritage month).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of advising high-level leaders on organizational effectiveness and/or DEIB practice.
  • Advanced knowledge of the organizational development and effectiveness field, theories, and models to assess, design and implement customized, strategic organization interventions.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical, problem-solving, strategic, and project planning and implementation skills.
  • Highly skilled in facilitation, consulting, and relationship building.
  • Outstanding communication skills demonstrated by the ability to interact comfortably with a wide range of diverse people, including executives, professional staff, students, and campus colleagues. This includes the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, in different styles as appropriate to the audience.
  • Possesses strong emotional intelligence, political and organizational acumen,
  • Demonstrates skill consulting to managers and groups at all levels.
  • Ability to coach, facilitate and influence people at all levels.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained; sound judgment; ability to draw unbiased conclusions.
  • Ability to focus on priorities, strategies, and vision.
  • Knowledge of the consulting process to effectively lead engagements from inception to conclusion.
  • Demonstrated operational application of DEIB theory and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations and information with care, confidentiality, and emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and advise leaders on infusing DEIB into processes, policies, and practices.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $140,000.00 – $158,000.00.

  • This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This position is exempt and paid monthly.
