Job Highlights:
SPECIFIED RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Imparts the philosophy, values, mission and vision of SSM and facilitates the integration of values in Continuous Quality Improvement (“CQI”) activities.
Understands, embraces, and practices the principles of CQI.
Follows internal policies, standard operating procedures, and state and federal regulatory requirements related to compliance with applicable law.
Reviews, evaluates and gives direction on complex legal issues emphasis on the legal and regulatory requirements placed on health care providers by serving as the subject matter expert on certain substantive areas and/or regional issues.
Coordinates the with outside counsel when compliance issues are identified and when specialty expertise is required.
Provides final legal advice and performs legal research pertaining to complex legal issues to SSM leaders and other SSM employees.
Organizes and documents work electronically through the use of an electronic management database.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, SSM’s Corporate Responsibility Program, SSM’s Code of Ethics, and relevant policies and procedures to ensure actions are consistent with SSM’s mission and values as well as organizational and professional ethical requirements.
Works autonomously at least 85% of the time and performs other tasks as requested by the Senior Managing Counsel or Assistant General Counsel.
SPECIFIED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Understanding of the mission and values of SSM and the Franciscan Sisters of Mary.
Utmost discretion in maintaining appropriate confidentiality and knowledge of attorney-client privilege.
The completion of a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school (health law focus preferred) and a member in good standing of a state bar association.
Five or more years experience in the area of health care regulation and/or law .
In-depth knowledge of health care and provider operations, tax exempt organization requirements, health care regulation and compliance, Fraud and Abuse laws, the False Claims Act, and accreditation standards.
Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills as well as interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact tactfully and effectively with others both internal and external to SSM Health on sensitive and complex topics.
Ability to manage and motivate professionals for excellence in performance through, among other ways, integrating CQI principles and tools into work processes.
Ability to use a personal computer and possess advanced skills in the latest software programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Lync and Adobe Acrobat.

Detail-oriented work that entails following standard operating procedures.
Core hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday.
Salaried positions are expected to work beyond core hours, when necessary, to complete tasks.
Job Summary:
Manages litigated subrogation interest. Represents organization’s interest in pending legal matters, and takes actions necessary to maximize recovery. Achieves optimum recovery performance and also assists with other corporate and non-litigated matters, as assigned. Responsible for coordinating contract requests and approvals, drafting contracts, performing legal review for all contracts and managing fully signed contracts to meet all external legal and regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages litigated subrogation case load and uses subrogation software.
Maintains relationships with insurance carriers, attorney’s offices, and internal customers.
Negotiates recovery of organization’s subrogation interest, during informal settlement discussions, mediations, or trial.
Trains and advises department staff regarding legal matters, including changes and updates to existing law.
Identifies problems and contributes to processes to improve efficiencies.
Conducts projects and participates in team activities to improve business processes.
Serves as in-house resource on matters of subrogation and third-party liability.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
Rare climbing.
