Position, Department: Senior Tutor, Anatomy & Physiology, SRC, Academic Affairs
Type of Position: Part-time Temporary, Non-Exempt
Work Schedule, Hours per week: varies, 12 hours per week
Pay Grade/Pay Range: 53.53, $19.97-24.96/hour *Actual pay depends on qualifications
Benefits Category: Limited benefits
Position Summary: Tutor students in Anatomy & Human Physiology courses taught at Johnson County Community College. Other responsibilities include referring students to appropriate resources, assist students with computer software necessary for the courses, mentoring new tutors, working in outreach programs, and other duties as requested by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or any other related health science field with successful completion of Human Anatomy & Physiology, Histology, Genetics or other related courses
- At least one year of tutoring/teaching experience
- Require good communication skills, including listening with understanding and patience
- Ability to explain concepts in Anatomy & Physiology both orally and in written form in a one to one or small group setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of tutoring/teaching experience

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:
TUTOR STUDENTS IN ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY- Help students understand concepts in Anatomy & Physiology by relating the course material to what they already know and using real life examples, help students with study skills, note taking and test taking strategies. Performance is acceptable when tutor is able to:
a. explain concepts clearly.
b. help students to use models and other online software to enhance learning.
c. help students memorize various anatomical parts.
MAINTENANCE OF ANATOMY MODELS- Keep models intact and check for any missing pieces and faded numbering. Make sure the models have the adequate copies of keys for student use. Performance is acceptable when tutor is able to:
a. Keep the models organized.
b. Make sure the numbering is legible.
c. Put parts together after student use.
REFER STUDENTS TO RESOURCES- Provide assistance to look up reliable information online as well in books Performance is acceptable when tutor is able to:
a. direct students to appropriate resources both online and in the center.
b. explain to students the proper use of resources.
ASSIST IN THE TRAINING AND MENTORING OF NEW TUTORS- Help new tutors learn the best practices in tutoring, the available resource in the SRC and in the policies and procedures of the SRC Performance is acceptable when tutor is able to:
a. transition new tutors into consistent and effective independent tutors.
b. provide guidance with the lab techniques.
ASSIST IN DAILY ACTIVITIES OF THE CENTER- Provide assistance in checking out models and books, abide by the policies of the center, respect diversity among students and other tutors. Performance is acceptable when tutor is able to:
a. treat students with respect and exhibit interest in helping them.
b. step in when need arises to check out models and books.
c. make sure that students follow the policies of the center.
d. help to keep the center clean and organized.
FOLLOW GOOD WORK ETHICS- Exhibit good work ethics by being reliable and dedicated. Performance is acceptable when tutor is able to:
a. report on time at the center and stays the whole time according to the schedule.
b. report absence in advance if possible; if not, in a timely manner so that alternate arrangements can be made.
