Kingston, New York, Job Summary: Assure a healthy and comfortable Hospital environment through the proper operation, control and maintenance of steam-generating equipment and other minor repairs of Hospital equipment and or any other duties as directed to maintain compliance. Responsibilities: Essential Job Responsibilities Manipulates valves to control the flow of water and fuel to increase or decrease steam pressure. Adjusts equipment controls to correct malfunctions when indicated by observation or in response to warning lights, horns or bells. Inspects boiler room observing the operation of equipment meters and gauges, compares findings to defined specifications. Maintains operating logs which include: fuel consumption, steam produced, blow-down time and meter readings. Records readings from bulk tanks of medical gases; performs rounds as assigned. Performs minor repairs and maintenance of boilers, i. e. , replacing gaskets, tightening joints, repairing valves, repacking pumps, etc. Performs other minor repairs on Hospital campus as assigned, or in response to requests from staff on weekends or 2nd/3rd shifts.

During snowstorms, responsible for sanding/salting of major roads on Hospital grounds and shoveling and sanding/salting of major pedestrian entry points to buildings. Completes required paperwork properly, using computer technology enhancements, as required; fulfills annual mandatory employee testing. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements/Qualifications: Education: Less than High School; must read and write English Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years boiler operation and maintenance experience preferred. Training/License: Apprenticeship or related trade school training or other directly related work experience.
