Student Experience Specialist & Academic Advisor, Stamford Campus
JOB SUMMARY
The School of Business
Undergraduate Programs Office (UPO) is seeking a full-time Student Experience Specialist & Academic Advisor (Student Services Program
Administrator). The incumbent will report to the Executive Director for Undergraduate Programs and will be responsible for the day-to-day
administration of student programs or service areas through the development, implementation, and coordination of student development
programs in the School of Business UPO.
This position advises undergraduate students about academic programs, plans of study, and
policies. It provides administrative oversight for the coordination and implementation of programs intended to increase student retention
and academic success.
This position also contributes to the professional development of students interested in business through
implementing developmental experiences and administrative activities associated with the co-curriculum learning environment at the Stamford
campus. This individual will provide support and guidance to student-run initiatives, including business student organizations. In addition,
this individual will develop and support programming for students that builds the culture of the campus community while elevating the
business acumen of students.
The position will be based at the Stamford campus but will require occasional in-state or out-of-state
travel and evenings or weekend hours in support of program activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include
but are not limited to:
- Assisting in the planning, development, design implementation, and evaluation of activities to ensure
students are achieving the established learning outcomes and retention goals for the UPO with a special focus on the co-curricular learning
environment at the Stamford campus. - Participating in the UPO work through contributing to the development, assessment, and
reflection of processes and programs. - Using knowledge of student development to create intentional programming in multiple
modalities to facilitate growth in students. - Engaging student organizations focused on business to create a sense of belonging and
community on the Stamford campus. - Advising current and prospective business students in all business majors in personalized
curriculum decisions including the appropriate choice of courses, scheduling of courses, selection or change of major or minor, waiver of
requirements/deadlines, and related matters. - Auditing student records to determine progress toward meeting academic requirements,
probationary requirements, and eligibility to graduate. - Creating individualized plans and programs for experiences that support
students seeking business majors at any UConn campus in their educational needs, career goals, and professional development, especially
focused on students in special Stamford-focused co-curricular learning experiences. - Discussing students’ status regarding
academic warning, probation, or dismissal. Working with probationary students to develop strategies to improve academic standing. Actively
participating in determining the dismissal of students in academic jeopardy. - Referring students to other student success
services such as Career Services and Counseling and Mental Health Services, as appropriate. - Serving as a resource for students,
faculty, parents, and guardians, and others with questions about programs, procedures, activities, or academic policies. - Providing
development of and support for ongoing undergraduate activities which may include administrative work with student clubs, honors program,
case competitions, mentorship programs, and experiential learning ventures. - Assisting in planning, developing, implementing,
and evaluating program activities to support the Business Connections Learning Community (BCLC) at Stamford including but not limited to
professional development events and industry immersive experience. - Coordinating the development and implementation of
specific courses for freshmen and sophomore students and teaches in these programs, like First Year Experience and Business Connections
Learning Community courses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related
field. - Five years of related work experience. One year of experience must be serving as an advanced team member.
- Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build and maintain collaborative
relationships with faculty, staff, students, administrators, external agencies/groups, and the public. - Demonstrated experience
taking initiative, working independently and accurately, exercising sound judgment when making decisions, and meeting deadlines. - Proven experience working successfully in both an independent and team environment.
- Experience planning, coordinating, and
executing events. - Experience working with student organizations.
- Demonstrated experience working with college
students in higher education institutions. - Demonstrated ability to multitask in a high-traffic office.
- Demonstrated
proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. - Dependable transportation and willingness and ability to
work evening and weekend hours and travel in-state, out-of-state, and internationally as needed in support of program activities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience working with student organizations in higher education.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with
constituents in virtual environments. - Demonstrated experience working in a higher education environment in a university learning
community setting. - Demonstrated experience in fostering professional relationships with undergraduate students.
- Demonstrated experience working with students seeking admission to selective admission programs.
- Prior experience working with
software systems to generate and utilize data to inform decision-making. - Prior experience in teaching college students.
- Previous supervisory experience of student staff.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time
position based in Stamford, CT. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement
between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
