Position Title: Student Services Specialist 1 (Temporary, Part-Time, up to 19.5 hours per week)
Department: Testing and Placement – West Campus
Rate of Pay: $18.08/hour
Closed Date: July 7, 2023; 5:00 PM Arizona Time
Position Summary:
The Student Services Specialist 1, Testing and Placement performs duties involving administering, proctoring and interpreting of academic, placement and certification testing services for students, the general public, and College staff. This is a front-line student service position that requires excellent customer service skills while at the same time the ability to ensure security and integrity of exams. The position will maintain detailed records, navigate multiple databases, interpret and follow test administration processes. Must be comfortable working with a variety of computer software applications.
Main campus is West Campus however, may need to cover multiple campuses upon request.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide a full range of testing services and promote a welcoming environment to support students and the general public in person, online or by telephone in academic and workforce programs
- Administer and proctor computer-based and paper-based academic, placement and certification exams according to local, state and national procedures, standards and policies
- Respond to inquiries and resolve issues, concerns and problems in person, online and by telephone with students, staff, faculty and the general public
- Communicate with students, faculty, College staff and the general public in-person and virtually about College services, programs and requirements
- Conduct student transactions, maintain and update student and department records utilizing the College, state and national information systems and databases
- Interpret complex information, make evaluative determinations and recommendations regarding services, programs, and procedures to students, staff, faculty and the general public
- Participate in a variety of College workshops, meetings and/or training sessions Assist in staff training as needed
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; participating in establishing and implementing unit policies and procedures
- Performing other duties of a similar nature or level as required
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Up to one year of related student or customer service experience
Preferred:
- One to three years of related experience
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Exceptional customer service experience and knowledge of customer service principles
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, flexibility and desire to work with a large diverse team across many campus and community locations
- Desktop computing and applicable software application knowledge; including troubleshooting basic desktop hardware and software issues, experience navigating databases and working with other virtually
- Ability to interpret, communicate and follow complex test administration and College procedures, standards and policies
- Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills; including the ability to work independently or with a team to make knowledgeable decisions based on job level
- Maintain security and integrity of testing materials, testing processes and confidential student records Knowledge of student services, programs relevant to a higher education and/or academic development principles Interpreting information, making determinations and recommendations
- Research and resolve complex issues and problems Compile and create reports
- Evaluate documents and applications
- Apply applicable, federal and state laws, rules, and regulations
