Success Coach I

About the Student Success Center:
Using a strength-based framework guided by trauma-informed
practices, the Student Success Center staff connects students throughout their Millikin experience and beyond by providing wrap-around
personal, academic, and career support.
Job Summary: Under the guidance of the Associate Director of Student
Success, they will mentor students. They serve as a support students by being a supportive role model, sharing resources, and developing
plans of success for their particular major. They will assist students in achieving their academic goals, particularly emphasizing
supporting the student’s holistic Millikin experience. Serves as an on-call staff member for Student Affairs, supporting students in crisis
and providing additional support when needed. Evening and weekend responsibilities are required for this position.

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Using the frameworks of strengths-based advising and trauma
informed practices, provide individualized and developmental advising and career coaching support to students from all backgrounds and
ability levels:
- Develop personalized plans for improvement and monitor student progress throughout the semester.
- Bi-weekly/monthly check-ins with students on your caseload.
- Develop a working relationship with the College of Fine Arts
faculty and staff and understand the academic curriculum. - Attends some of the College of Fine Arts performances to support
students.
Assist the Associate Director of Student Success with preparing and implementing the University bridge program,
EDGE.
3. Knowledgeable of all of Millikin’s campus resources.
4. Serve as the formal liaison to the College of Fine Arts,
collaborating with the faculty to develop, execute, monitor, and assess academic support programming directed toward College of Fine Arts
students and their unique challenges.
5. Collaborate with other departments, including Student Mental and Behavioral Health, Math
Center, Writing Center, Campus Life, and Office of the Registrar, and provide appropriate student referrals.
6. Serve as a Student
Development Advisor within the retention program, advising a caseload of assigned students. This includes but is not limited to
contacting and meeting with advisees, collaborating with academic advisors, faculty, and other partners; using technology platforms to
record student interactions and access student information; and attending required training and professional development regarding
advising students.
7. Utilize student information systems/platforms to provide effective and efficient information to students,
faculty, and other constituents while maintaining student confidentiality in accordance with the Family Education Rights to Privacy Act.
8. Serve as an advocate for student success through frequent attendance at campus and community programs, events, and activities.
9. Serve as a first responder for campus crises, including serving as Student Affairs On-Call Team rotation member.

Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s
Degree preferred. - Prior academic advising and student support experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications,
student information systems, and emerging technologies. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Position Qualifications:
- Experience in the development and creation of innovative student service
programs. - Demonstrated understanding and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Experience in academic plans and
working with students with disabilities. - Ability to work in partnership with staff, faculty, administrators, and student
leaders. - Understanding of student development with competence in departure theory, involvement theory, and other student
development theories. - Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment, meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and
reprioritize projects as needed.
