We are looking for a Superintendent – HME Maintenance in our Southern Operations Heavy Equipment Workshops. This critical role provides leadership to successfully deliver maintenance activities for the Amrun Operation and its heavy equipment fleet, including 776 and 777 long haul trucks, 785 rear tippers, 993 loaders, D11 dozers and ancillary equipment.
Tasked with coordinating four operational crews to safely meet targets, this role is a great opportunity for an experienced leader to take the reins and effectively deliver the maintenance strategy for our agile bauxite mining operation.
Reporting to the Manager Plant & Maintenance and working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will:
- Coach and develop Supervisors and Crew Coordinators to continuously improve the HME and fleet performance;
- Manage major maintenance activities;
- Provide peer support to achieve the broader Weipa Portfolio objectives;
- Identify, lead and implement productivity enhancing initiatives;
- Drive a workshop culture aligned with Rio Tinto’s The Way We Work;
- Continue to integrate Critical Risk Management (CRM) and Human Performance (HP) into day to day operations and lead a safety culture of continuous improvement and safety leadership at all levels;
- Where required, effectively engage and consult with internal and external stakeholders to ensure positive outcomes are achieved for all matters.

- A passion for developing your people and enabling their success;
- Mechanical tertiary or trade qualification – necessary to understand the technical aspects involved with the maintenance of heavy equipment across a mining operation;
- A strong commitment to Health Safety, Environment and local community;
- Demonstrated experience in leading teams of maintenance personnel;
- A demonstrated understanding of the work management process, and a commitment to that process;
- Ability to promote, mentor and drive a diverse way of thinking and ability to challenge the status quo;
- A Manual C Class Drivers Licence.

This position is a residential role in Weipa. The successful applicant will be supported with relocation if coming from outside of Weipa and will be eligible for company housing. This position is based at Amrun so you will be provided camp accommodation whilst on shift. This role’s shift arrangement is Day work only working a 9 day fortnight with flexible options in Weipa.

Where you’ll be working
Our Weipa operations in Far North Queensland includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals.
Amrun, our newest mine, was completed in 2018 and will extend our Weipa bauxite operations by decades, significantly building on our 55-year history on the Western Cape, and providing jobs and supporting business growth in the region. The mine is located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements , ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.
