Organization: VUMC IT Data Center Services Job Summary: The VUMC data center is a 24×7 operation and hosts all of the medical center’s most critical IT infrastructure. The Data Center Operations team is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and improving the critical IT infrastructure that supports a top 10 biomedical research program, a nationally recognized adult and children’s hospital that provides care to over 2 million patients per year, and the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network which works with over 60 hospitals and 5,000 clinics across the Southeastern US. The data center supervisor is responsible for the 24×7 staffing of the IT Operations Center, managing the day-to-day operations of the data center, and controlling quality to ensure all work meets requirements for quality as defined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Program Policies, Safety Policies, and Security Policies. This candidate will have a very strong eye for detail, a strong sense of ownership, the ability to lead a team, and possess a foundational understanding of networking, operating system, and mainframe technologies.

This position has direct responsibility for the training, coordination, and evaluation of the data center operations team. The supervisor will assist in all project related work. This includes updating the floor work spreadsheet, updating project documents, confirmation of equipment arrival, scheduling, and coordination of standard changes, performing and/or overseeing project work, completion of weekly and monthly reporting, and assisting the Data Center Project Manager with refinement of tracking processes. Must be customer focused and able to interface directly with a variety of VUMC IT workgroups. . Job Description Responsibilities Directly support and complete all scheduled data center MACs (Moves/Adds/Changes). Oversee the data center request processes from start to finish. Maintain detailed and thorough documentation and record keeping. Asset management, auditing, and daily work log/ticket tracking. Develop and maintain data center processes related to all standard and emergency data center MACs (Moves/Adds/Changes).

Create and oversee policies and procedures to follow industry best practices and to meet SLAs. Process owner for shipment intake, hardware chain of custody, hardware surplus, major incidents, and mainframe processes. Responsible for overall site readiness, cleanliness, and staffing. Develop and mentor employees to continuously improve skills and team performance. Train and supervise data center technicians. Coach and mentor team members on continuous improvements, processes, job functions and resolution skills. Assist project management from defining scope, resources, and priority; to overseeing and implementing the project plan. Overseeing and managing the data center team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedule to ensure timely completion of all data center projects and meeting deadlines. Works closely with the facilities team to assure data center build outs are managed according to capacity and environmental requirements. Elicit data center infrastructure requirements from customers.

Initiates new responsibilities and assists all plans for the future of the datacenter. Provide smart-hands assistance as required for multiple customers at various sites within specified response times (on-call duties apply) Maintain a safe and secure operating environment within the data center and report any violations to their manager. Maintain site security protocols, badging requirements, and data protection procedures. Quality Assurance – Perform quality audits to ensure team members are following data center processes and standards. Foundational working knowledge with server and network hardware/components, copper and fiber infrastructure installation and testing, data center productivity and support tools, applications and software and data center infrastructure management (DCIM) related tools. Must work and interact effectively and professionally with and for others throughout various levels of the organization. On-Call, Vacation and Sick Coverage as needed. Drive innovation in the data center at VUMC, as well as across the industry. Ensure customer needs are met and identify issues and areas for improvement.
