Department Summary

The TRIO Programs at the University of North Texas at Dallas were designed to support the academic development of students within our partner schools of Dallas ISO and surrounding school districts. Talent Search – Targeted Academic and Social/ Emotional support for High School Students currently residing in Low Social Economic areas with low Post-baccalaureate Completion Rates. Additionally, the student attend schools with High Drop Out and Low College Going Rates. The TRIO Programs at UNT Dallas will be integral partners with our Partner School Districts by providing services to their underserved students of promise with intentional programs that support the holistic development of their students. The goal is to provide a vision, framework and detailed plan for each student to successfully attain a High School Diploma and Collegiate Degree in order to become active participants of our society. Please note that there are multiple openings for the TRIO Talent Search position. Federally funded grant position from May 12, 2023 to July 14, 2023.

Position Summary

Approximately 75 students from area high schools will be visiting on the UNTO campus where they will be exposed to the college experience. The Tutor/Counselors will work with certified instructors in academic areas and lead/supervise students during cultural, recreational, and social activities. In addition, the Tutor/Counselors will be responsible for the students on a 10-hour basis from Monday morning through Friday evening throughout the duration Talent Search Summer Program. The 4-week position includes 1 training week, and 3 weeks of 10hr. supervision of up to 75 high school youth within an academic and recreational pre-college program

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess the following:

  • Current college/university student or graduate.
  • Excellent customer service skills, as well as effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Some knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Responsible, reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to learn assigned tasks readily, to adhere to prescribed routines, and to develop some skill in the operation of common office equipment.
  • Cumulative grade point average above 2. 75 or above.
  • Experience working with high school youth. – Ability to work independently and is organized and dependable.
  • Must be able to work with a team. High level of maturity, motivation and responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College junior, senior or college graduate and/or prior Resident Advisor experience

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday (Start/End times will vary)
