Job Description

Tutor

Job Summary

The Center for Science and Mathematics Education is seeking individuals who
are available as a tutor in multiple areas of science and mathematics to work in the REFUGES after school program.
The REFUGES program is an after-school program that addresses the under-representation of women, minorities,
refugees, non-native English speakers, and economically disadvantaged students in STEM disciplines as well as the
academic weakness that refugee youth face in the Utah system due to placement in grade levels that are not suitable to their education
backgrounds. As a tutor in the REFUGES program you will work with a team of tutors, partners, university
departments, and community organizations to provide academic enrichment and support to our students. Additionally, tutors will establish and
maintain positive, peer-mentor relationships with each of the students in the program. Tutors will support students as they participate in
various enrichment activities such as prevention programming, STEM exploration, lab demonstrations, ALEKS mathematics, and college and career readiness. REFUGES is looking for tutors to guide
and assist underrepresented students in the REFUGES program in completing the coursework, completing their
homework, planning for college, and those who are participating in the INSPIRE program. Tutors will work directly
with students (grades 7-12), and will be responsible for participating in daily enrichment courses.
