Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
The Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports to the President and provides executive leadership and
guidance for financial stewardship and planning of the University. As a key strategic leader, the CFO evaluates existing systems and plans,
develops, and implements modifications and/or new procedures relating to the financial operations of the University, and is accountable for
all outcomes by ensuring proper legal and regulatory compliance. As part of the President’s Cabinet, the CFO plays a key role as an advisor
to the President and other senior members of the Administration. The CFO, along with the Finance team, also provides guidance, partnership,
and leadership on financial matters to the broader College community.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1.
Support the University’s business strategy and planning, monitoring, management, and reporting, including management and development of
policies, systems, processes, and personnel involved. Provide strategic consultation and representation on financial issues, including
financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, data and reporting on financial questions, and revenue and expense
analysis. Develops and recommends solutions to address University financial issues.
2. Develop and maintain systems of internal
controls to safeguard the financial assets of the University. Oversee the Finance Office staff, the coordination and activities of
independent auditors, and direct preparation of the University’s annual budget and all financial reports, reports to trustees, tax returns,
and reports for government regulatory agencies. Review reports to analyze projections of revenue/support and expenses against actual figures
and budget, and suggest areas and methods of improving the planning process as appropriate.
3. Analyzes financial data to create
financial models for decision-making, analyzes past results, performs variance analysis, identifies trends, and makes recommendations to
strengthen the financial position and long-term viability of the University.
4. Works with the President and other executives to
coordinate planning and establish priorities for the planning process, study long-range economic trends and project’s impact on future
growth, and analyze operations to identify areas in need of investment, reorganization, downsizing, or elimination.
5. Work with the
President, members of the Cabinet, and budget supervisors across campus to develop an annual budget development process.
6. Oversee
all aspects of the financial operations and processes to ensure adequate resources and cash flow to meet the University’s needs.
7.
Serves as the liaison to the Finance, Audit, Buildings, and Grounds Committee of the Board of Trustees.
8. Manage relationships with
the University’s commercial lenders and other financially interested parties (i.e. bond trustees, investment managers, leasing companies).
Work with banks, attorneys, and/or investment bankers as needed to raise additional capital as required for expansion or
refinancing.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Education:
Master’s Degree Required in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
Experience: Minimum of seven
(7) years of progressively responsible leadership and experience in financial management required. Experience in higher education
preferred

Specific Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications: Yes. Certified Public
Accountant designation preferred.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee
is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle or feel; and reach
with hands and arms.
This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20
pounds.
Use of computer screen, phone and customer service. May require bending, or sitting for long periods of time. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to
adjust focus.

Training: As a University employee you are required to complete all University-specific and/or
OSHA related training to fulfill your job duties. Specific training will be conducted online or in person. Employees must complete all
trainings required by Benedictine University.
